Pals for Paws is contacting
families who have adopted from us in the past, and others who have
helped us with rescues. We want to thank you for helping us help the
homeless and abandoned pets in central Indiana and across the nation. We
assisted over 1000 homeless animals in 2009, and we are in desperate
need of financial help. We currently owe over $12,000 in medical bills,
as we have been overwhelmed with animals being left homeless due to the
economy. Many people do not want to take their animals to the shelter,
so they are dumping them or just leaving them behind to fend for
themselves. We have taken in several dogs in need of medical attention
due to infections, starvation, heartworm, and other problems.
At the same time, we have suffered a large drop in donations as over
9000 jobs have been lost in Howard County alone. We are a 501c3 not for
profit, and all donations are tax deductable. We can send a receipt for
tax purposes. Also we are 100% volunteer, so all proceeds go to the care
of the animals. Thank you for helping support us in the past. With out
the help of people like your selves, we would not be able to continue
our mission. We may have to close the rescue if we do not get the
funding to pay off the medical bills we currently owe, as we cannot
continue to provide medical help or spaying and neutering for the
animals.
Even small donations add up, and will help us to make payments on our
bill. If you know of someone looking to adopt, our animals are fully
vetted and spayed or neutered upon adoption. We are heart broken to
think we will be unable to continue our mission to help those animals
being left homeless due to the economy. Please help us to give them
hope.
Please make checks payable to Pals for Paws. Our address is PO Box 1034
Kokomo, IN 46903. Donations can also be made through paypal on our
website at palsforpawsinc.com.
We sincerely appreciate your help. On behalf of the animals, we thank
you.
Freeway has 8 lives to go!
On
July 13th, 2006 I was stuck behind a gas tanker truck at a red light on
US 31 in the left turn lane. When the light turned green, I saw this
tiny kitten fly out of the back wheel well of the truck and thrown about
25 feet into the grassy median. I turned into a nearby gas station, ran
across the highway into the median, and began searching for the kitten.
I found the little kitten lying in the tall grass panting and
scared to death. Her eyes were as big as marbles. I picked her up, put
her in my lap, and took her home. After being examined by a local vet,
the 7 week old kitten was found to have a dislocated front shoulder and
a broken elbow. “Freeway” also had a broken pelvis. A splint was put on
her front leg for six weeks. Since her pelvis was not separated, it
healed naturally. She never seemed to be in any pain while she was hurt.

Freeway is healing well but still walks with a slight limp and plays
like a normal little kitty cat. You would never have known she suffered
a near death experience. She has a sweet disposition and is beautifully
marked. She is one very lucky kitten.
